I spent my formative hears in North Platte, Nebraska where I graduated from high school. It took me a year or two to end up at the university of Nebraska-Lincoln where I met my wife, Karen, and earned a Bachelors of Journalism degree (photo-journalism emphasis) in 1991. I stumbled into the Lincoln, Nebraska sailing scene while on photo assignment for the Lincoln Journal-Star during a internship as a photojournalist. Journalism was enjoyable work. I'm convinced the uniqueness of the job was part of the compensation in lieu of actual money. I was fortunate my career path was steered from journalism to Information Technology in the 90s as the Internet revolution was happening. Today, I work in the IT industry and continue to sail on boats of all sizes. I skipper racing boats; Sunfish, Snipes, MC Scows; in and around Nebraska, and crew on big boats in offshore races in Chicago. Karen is a competent sailor and owns her own pocket cruiser she keeps at Branched Oak Lake. We bareboat charter in the Caribbean.
